28 Straight Losses - The Downfall of the Detroit Pistons

After the Detroit Pistons' loss to the Boston Celtics (112 - 118) at TD Garden, they are

officially tied for the longest streak of losses in the NBA.

There are a number of reasons for the Pistons' losing streak. However, a few stand out as the

primary reasons for their losses

1. 3-Point Shooting

In the 2020s, 3-point shots are a crucial part of the game. Knocking down 3-point shots at an

effective percentage is crucial for winning games. Unfortunately, the Pistons have failed to

effectively knock down the 3-point shot. The team is shooting less than 35% from three-point

range.

2. Turnovers

The Pistons have been struggling to handle the basketball well. Throughout this season, they

turned the ball over an average of 16 times per game. The large number of turnovers is

damaging as it helps the opposing team score more points

3. Centers

Their first string center, Jalen Duren, has been out for most of the season. As such, the

Detroit Pistons have been forced to rely on their second and third centers, Marvin Bagley III

and James Wiseman. Both of these players were initially lottery picks who failed to meet their

potential with their original teams, the Kings and the Warriors, respectively. Despite minor

improvements, both of these centers have been ball-dominant but inefficient.

The Future

While the Detroit Pistons keep losing, like any other team would, they are trying to pull a win

together. In a previously mentioned game against the Celtics, who have the most wins in the

league, the Pistons had a 19-point lead heading into halftime. If the Pistons continue to play

like their Boston game, they may be able to win again. One thing to note is that the front

office for the team does not seem to want to make any changes to the roster or any front

office personnel. All in all, the Pistons seem to have problems that they need to fix before they

become a threat to the league.
